A dental crown is a “cap” that is placed over a damaged or weakened tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance. Crowns can be made of a variety of materials, including porcelain, ceramic, metal, or a combination of these. They are custom-made to fit over the prepared tooth.
A dental bridge is a fixed appliance that is used to replace one or more missing teeth. The bridge consists of two or more dental crowns that are attached to the remaining natural teeth on either side of the gap, with a false tooth (or teeth) in between. The bridge is anchored in place, filling the gap with a natural-looking replacement tooth or teeth.
Both dental crowns and bridges are often recommended for teeth that have been damaged by decay or trauma, or for teeth that are missing or severely weakened.
Our dentists will be able to advise you on whether a crown or bridge is the best option for your particular situation.
